Libya: Islamic State attack luxury Tripoli Hotel, at least 3 dead
Members of the self proclaimed 'Islamic State' (formerly ISIS, ISIL) have carried out their first assault on Libyan soil, when gunmen stormed Tripoli’s Corinthia Hotel killing three guards and setting off a car bomb, Tuesday. It is currently unclear whether the gunmen are still inside the hotel.
Islamic State have named the attack ‘operation: Abu Anas al-Libi’, after the Libyan computer specialist who worked for Al Qaida. Al-Libi died in New York earlier this month, after he was captured in Tripoli in joint operation by U.S. Security forces during 2013.
The Conrithia Hotel is popular among international diplomats and is often the site of United Nations meetings and workshops.
