Egypt: Cairo clashes erupt on cancelled Jan 25 uprising celebrations
At least five anti-government protesters were killed in clashes with Egyptian security forces in the Cairo suburb of Ein Shams on Sunday.
The banned protest was organised to oppose Egyptian ruler Abdel Fatah el-Sisi on the fourth anniversary of Egypt’s 2011 uprising which ended the almost 30 year rule of former leader Hosni Mubarak.
Egypt cancelled all protests and celebrations marking the anniversary of the January 25 revolution on Friday 23 due to a seven day period of mourning for the death of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah.
