Ukraine: DPR accuses Ukraine's army of friendly fire and Mariupol shelling
The Deputy Commander of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DNR/DPR) Edward Basurin accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of shelling a friendly unit without prior reconnaissance at a press conference in Donetsk, Saturday. Basurin claims that Ukraine's army confused the Ukrainian 28th Guards Mechanised Brigade with a DPR/DNR unit.
The artillery strike reportedly resulted in heavy losses for the Ukrainian army, with 15 soldiers killed or injured, one APC and one truck destroyed - according to DPR reconnaissance data.
Basurin also blamed the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the shelling of Mariupol that occurred earlier on Saturday and killed at least 15 civilians, with some sources claiming that over 30 people were killed in the artillery strikes.
