Ukraine: See the DESTROYED Donetsk Airport now under DPR control
The Donetsk Airport is in the hands of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) forces Friday, after one of the longest and most deadliest battles of the conflict in east Ukraine. The last Ukrainian soldiers retreated from their positions in the airport on Thursday, but Ukrainian forces still remain in the area.
The head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko declared victory after the battle and taunted Poroshenko, inviting him to come and take back the Ukrainian flag abandoned by his retreating army "if he was a man".
The airport is now left in ruins, damaged by the heavy fighting as almost every structure including the control tower has been gutted by fire and explosions. The struggle over the Donetsk airport originally began in May of 2014, while the latest assault started Tuesday. The self-proclaimed DPR claim to have suffered no casualties during the fighting, while also claiming to have captured some Ukrainian soldiers.
