Lebanon: Syrian refugees struggle in snow
Recent winter weather has proven difficult to cope with for many Syrian refugees, as footage in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley from January 9 shows. Temperatures have averaged around 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) in January in the region, and snowfall has been heavy.
Saleh, a Syrian refugee whose wife died while giving birth to triplets, said that "staying warm is the most important thing" for his children.
There are around 402,000 registered refugees in the Bekaa Valley, with an estimated 144,000 more living in informal settlements such as private, vacant lots.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently providing blankets, plastic sheeting and materials to repair refugee shelters with, but states on their website that "much more needs to be done" to assist refugees.
