Germany: "We are the people" - PEGIDA hit the streets of Berlin
Around 400 adherents of BAERGIDA - the Berlin version of PEGIDA - gathered at Brandenburger Tor in protest against what they call the 'Islamisation of Germany', Monday evening. They also marched several hundred of metres towards the centre, but police stopped them when they saw counter-demonstrators blocking the road.
The group chanted phrases like "We are the people" and held banners reading 'We are not Nazis' and 'I am Charlie.' The police with a presence of around 900 officers estimated the counter-protest at around 4,000 people.
PEGIDA's popularity has continued to rise since they were formed in late 2014. The organisation was found in Dresden and have seen their numbers in attendance rise continuously since they were first formed.
