Germany: Ukraine 'Normandy format' crisis talks begin in Berlin
Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier hosted a 'Normandy format' diplomatic meeting at the foreign ministry's guesthouse Villa Borsig in Berlin, Monday. Steinmeier invited the foreign ministers of France, Ukraine and Russia (Laurent Fabius, Pavlo Klimkin and Sergei Lavrov respectively) to discuss and try to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
Before the diplomatic meeting, Steinmeier stated that Germany cannot avoid being involved in the crisis and must renew efforts to bring all sides together to resolve the crisis.
The foreign ministers are expected to confirm a summit meeting on Ukraine to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan on January 15-16. German Chancellor Angela Merkel previously stated that there would be no summit meeting in Astana unless the Minsk memorandum was implemented by all sides.
