Iraq: Yazidi fighters liberate 'corpse-strewn' town
Yazidi forces liberated another town in the area around Mount Sinjar in their fight against ISIS, Monday. A Yazidi commander said the town was strewn with “corpses” after ISIS had massacred those who could not escape in their August offensive in the area.
Yaizidi forces are now digging a trench between their position and other villages in the area which are controlled by ISIS.
Sinjar was the site of a siege, when up 50,000 Christian Yazidis climbed the mountain in an attempt to escape the oncoming ISIS fighters. The siege was only broken after counter attacks from Kurish Peshermerga forces with support from US airstrikes.
