At least 12 people, including two police officers, were killed and several more critically injured when armed gunmen opened fire at Charlie Hebdo's HQ in central Paris. The men, dressed in black commando outfits, entered the building and fired a number of rounds from Kalashnikov assault rifles. They fled in a stolen car following a shoot-out with police.
Eighteen-year-old Hamyd Mourad was detained in connection to the shooting at a police station in the northern town of Charleville-Meziere after turning himself in to police at 23.00 local time Wednesday.
