USA: Volvo's new bike helmet could save your life
Volvo, sports gear manufacturer POC and Ericsson showcased an internet-connected bicycle helmet that responds to live images of traffic at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
The helmet, which is at its prototype stage, reports the cyclist’s position to a cloud database which in turn warns both the cyclist and drivers of potential dangers. The helmet flashes a red light and vibrates when a car is approaching. Volvo cars fitted with the appropriate application will show smart alerts when a cyclist is close by.
CES is an annual electronics and technology trade fair showcasing consumer electronics and technology from global producers since 1967. Based at the Las Vegas Convention Centre since 1998, the show has been the first to present multiple seminal products, including the video cassette recorder, compact disc player, as well as tablets and android devices. This year's conference will run until January 9.
