Spain: The prodigal son returns - Torres back at Atletico after 7 years
Fernando Torres was presented to fans and press at Madrid's Vicente Calderon stadium, Sunday. More than 45,000 fans turned up to welcome their favourite son home. Nicknamed "El Nino" (the child), Torres hails from Madrid himself. He scored 84 goals in 214 appearances for the club during his previous stay and was club captain at the age of 19.
He made subsequent big money moves to Liverpool and then Chelsea. His move to Chelsea is reported to have cost the club £50 million (€63.9 million), a British record at the time. He explained during his unveiling that leaving Atletico "was the hardest moment" of his career and that it is "nice to come home." Torres was also welcomed by club chairman Enrique Cerezo.
Torres is hoping for a change in fortunes with regard to his form having scored only 21 league goals since 2011.
