Italy: 450 migrants ABANDONED by smugglers towed ashore
A ship carrying over 450 migrants docked at the Italian port of Corigliano Calabro on Friday after the coast guard found the vessel abandoned by traffickers off the southern Italian coast.
Setting off from a Turkish port earlier this week, the Ezadeen which was carrying mostly Syrian refugees, lost power in rough seas, prompting the ship's crew to abandon both the vessel and migrants on board. The ship was found at approximately 40 nautical miles (74.1 km) from shore by the coast guard.
The Ezadeen is the second migrant-carrying vessel found abandoned in four days. Some 800 migrants were discovered on board the abandoned Blue Sky M just five miles (8 km) off the Italian coast earlier this week.
