Egypt: Clashes erupt in Cairo anti-government protest
At least five protesters were seriously injured after security forces opened fire during a pro-Muslim Brotherhood demonstration in Cairo, Friday.
The protest was organised in opposition to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi , who played a key role in ousting former President Mohamed Morsi in June 2013. Protesters marched through the streets chanting “down, down with army rule” following morning prayer.
The National Alliance for Supporting Legitimacy, an Islamic anti-government coalition, has called for a week of protests dubbed ‘Together we save Egypt.’ The action has been organised ahead of the 4th anniversary of the January 25 uprising that eventually led to the overthrow of then President Hosni Mubarak on February 11, 2011.
