USA: Meet the cute pooch putting plane passengers at ease
A canine recruit to San Francisco International's Airport's 'Wag Brigade' sidled up to passengers on Tuesday with the aim of easing any pre-flight stresses.
Organisers assign SPCA-certified (San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) therapy dogs wearing vests reading "pet me" as they walk through airport terminals with handlers, interacting with travellers. Director of Guest Experience Christopher Birch noted that the dogs are a hit with children and adults alike.
The Wag Brigade is a co-project launched by San Francisco city, San Francisco county and the SPCA via their Animal Assisted Therapy programme. Around 20-25 dog and handler teams are currently active at the airport.
