
Indonesia: AirAsia flight DISAPPEARED at Tanjung Pandan island
Indonesian Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan spoke about the OZ8501 missing passenger flight bound from Surabaya to Singapore in Jakarta on Sunday, stating that the Airbus A320-200 aircraft disappeared between Tanjung Pandan on the Belitung island in the Indonesian province, and Pontianak in the western province of Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The Airbus A320-200 had 155 passengers on board with 138 adults, 16 children and one infant, along with two pilots, four flight attendants and one engineer. Nationalities of the passengers and crew include one from Singapore, one from Malaysia, one from France, three from South Korea and 156 from Indonesia.
The plane went missing after losing contact with air traffic control on Sunday morning at 12:30am GMT (07:24am local time.) It had took off from Juanda International Airport at 05:35 am local time (22:30 GMT) and had requested a change in route due to weather conditions before losing communications with Indonesian Air Traffic Control (ATC).
