USA: Cops take on frustrated sneakerheads as Air Jordans SELL OUT
Scores of people queued in anticipation of the release of the latest wave of Air Jordan 11 Retro 'Legend Blue' basketball sneakers in Charlotte through the late hours of Friday into Saturday. Dozens braved the cold, only to be faced with disappointment, as the store ran out of stock in the early morning.
The Air Jordan 11 Retro 'Legend Blue' was first made for NBA star player Michael Jordan in 1996. The sneaker has been gaining attention since the basketball player began producing new versions of the show with Nike, causing a feeding frenzy among the “snearker-head” crowd and prompting unrest and bouts of violence at retailers selling the item. Although no scuffles took place in Charlotte on Saturday, over a dozen police officers were deployed on site to quell any possible unrest.
The shoe can be purchased at select retailers for $200 (€164) and online for $450- $600 (€368 - €490).
