USA: 1,500 more US troops heading to Iraq - Pentagon
The United States will send an additional 1,500 military personnel to Iraq within weeks to train local forces in the fight against the Islamic State (IS), Lt. General James L. Terry said Thursday in Washington, DC. His words came during a press conference at the Pentagon.
Terry added the personnel would serve in noncombat roles, and that the US expects partner nations to provide an additional 1,500 personnel of their own. He also said that he believed there have been "initial successes" in the conflict with IS, but that "There will be challenges down the road that will require patience."
