Russia: ‘Combatants in E. Ukraine followed call of their heart’ – Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that combatants taking part in the east Ukraine conflict "followed the call of their heart" and were not sent to the region. They "cannot be considered mercenaries" since they are not being paid, he added. He made the comments during his tenth annual major news press conference at Moscow's World Trade Centre, Thursday.
During the several-hours-long annual presser, the Russian president answers uncensored questions from journalists, and reflects on the outgoing year. A total of 1,259 journalists from 18 countries have been accredited for the presser, among them reporters from Japan, the United States, Iran, Germany, France, Romania, Belarus, Sweden, Israel, China, Denmark, Spain, Abkhazia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
