
Russia: 'Despite market turbulence, federal budget is in the black' – Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that despite recent "turbulence" on the Russian financial markets, the federal budget will be in the black by the end of the year. He made the comments during his 10th annual major news press conference at Moscow's World Trade Centre, Thursday.
He said that "incomes will be higher than spending by 1.2 trillion rubles, that's about 1.9 percent of GDP." During the several-hours-long annual presser, the Russian president answers uncensored questions from journalists, and reflects on the outgoing year.
A total of 1,259 journalists from 18 countries have been accredited, among them reporters from Japan, the United States, Iran, Germany, France, Romania, Belarus, Sweden, Israel, China, Denmark, Spain, Abkhazia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
