Russia: Defence Control Centre gets new helipad
Russia’s new National Defence Control Centre (NDCC) has unveiled a brand new helipad, with a Мi-8/17 helicopter seen landing on the facility in inclement weather Wednesday.
The helipad marks a major advance in the process of modernising the country’s military, but it will not be restricted to just Defence Ministry staff. Emergency services medical and rescue personnel will also have access.
The brand new fortified facility would take control of the country in the event of an all-out war, with all government activities run from inside the facility. It would also have covert evacuation routes in the event of a major attack on the city.
The idea was originally proposed by President Vladimir Putin to streamline the organisation as well as the command and control of all of Russia’s armed forces. The NDCC already began work at the start of December and continues its peacetime functions of managing strategic nuclear forces, combat systems and daily control of the Army.
