Prior to the camp being destroyed, police had announced 9am local time, December 11 as the ultimate deadline for protesters to clear the main 'Occupy Central' protest site.

The elimination of the protest camp comes after several months of protesting in the area. Protesters have been demanding that a plan to screen candidates for 2017 elections is scrapped.
