Venezuela: Watch weapons be DESTROYED to build homes
Venezuelan officials, including Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz and Deputy Minister of Public Safety Gabriel Oviedo, destroyed dozens of weapons at Carabobo Park in Caracas on Friday, as part of the government's national disarmament plan to reduce violence and crime rates in the country. The destroyed weapons will be converted into ferrous metal as part of a government-sponsored plan to help build homes and apartments.
The voluntary national disarmament plan began in September 2013. A total of 14,729 weapons have already destroyed in the country this year.
Venezuela has one of the highest homicide rates in the world. In 2013, an average of 39 people out of every 100,000 became victims of homicide.
