Germany: Merkel pledges support to Afghanistan after NATO withdrawal
German Chancellor Angela Merkel pledged to further support Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his new government at a press conference in Berlin Friday.
The announcement comes as foreign combat troops withdraw from Afghanistan after 13 years of deployment. Earlier on Friday the German parliament voted to keep 850 soldiers in Afghanistan for training purposes during 2015.
Merkel also made clear that Germany supported economic and educational development in Afghanistan just as much as developing the police and army.
