Russia: ROCKET LAUNCHERS fired on Chechen militants in occupied school
Russian security forces were caught in a shootout with Chechen militants in Grozny Thursday, after the armed gun men were found hiding in a school building in the centre of the Chechen capital.
Armed law enforcement opened fire on School No. 20 in which the militants are held up, using RPG-7 hand-held grenade launchers, AK-74M assault rifle with adapted GP-34 grenade launchers and Dragunov sniper rifles. Officials reported that eight to nine people had occupied the building, but five of the militants had already been eliminated, adding that the area was close to being secured.
The confrontation follows a separate overnight battle between security forces and another group of assailants for a local press house in central Grozny.
