
Russia: Yota unveils second gen smartphone with TWO screens

Yota, Russia’s leading mobile devices manufacturer, officially presented the newest YotaPhone 2, its second generation dual-screen smartphone, on Tuesday. The official public presentation took place at the ‘Garage’ Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow's Gorky Park.
Compared to its predecessor, the new YotaPhone is bigger with a 5-inch active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) front display. On the back it now has a 4.7-inch e-ink display, which is always on and now fully touch-responsive. The device has an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter on the other side.
Another feature of the YotaPhone 2 is its Smart Power Mode allowing the user to turn off the energy-consuming colour screen and perform functions like making phone calls on the always-on display to preserve battery life. YotaPhone delivers over 50 hours of battery life while in ‘reading mode’.
The YotaPhone 2, first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. The new device will will cost its hightech lovers in Russia 32,990 roubles ($636, €513). The new smartphone will go on sale in Moscow on December 27 and will enter the European and Asian markets later in January.
Russian President Vladimir Putin gifted his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping the dual-screen YotaPhone 2, when they met in Beijing at APEC summit.
