Russia: Lavrov calls for 'ban on purchase of oil from terrorists'
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in Moscow, Friday that Russia was determined to promote UN Security Council resolutions that seek to criminalise the purchase of oil from territories controlled by terrorists.
Speaking at a press briefing after his meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal Al Saud, Lavrov stated that Russia had played an active role in the adoption of Security Council resolutions 2170 and 2178. These call on all countries to counteract any kind of support for extremist groups in the Middle East and North Africa, among them the Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL).
Lavrov called for the principles contained in the two resolutions to be implemented through their translation "into the language of practical requirements."
