
UK: UKIP's Reckless wins Rochester and Strood by-election
The UK Independence Party (UKIP) doubled its representation in Parliament early Friday, as Mark Reckless won the Rochester and Strood by-election by 2,920 votes. Reckless, who defected from the Conservative Party, becomes UKIP’s second elected MP.
Reckless addressed supporters and media in the Kent town of Gillingham, where he was joined by UKIP leader Nigel Farage. Farage said that UKIP had "fought a good clean British fight" and that the party triumphed in a "David v Goliath" battle.
The result was announced at 3 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) at Medway Park in Gillingham.
