Russia: "Tragic consequences of so-called colour revolutions a lesson to Russia" - Putin
President Vladimir Putin said that Russia must "draw lessons from the outcome of the so-called Colour Revolutions" during and extended meeting of the Russian Security Council at the Moscow Kremlin, Thursday.
He described "colour revolutions", such as those in Ukraine and Georgia, as "irresponsible experiments" that were organised from outside, adding that "we must do our utmost to ensure that nothing of this sort ever happens in Russia."
Putin then discussed inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations, saying that they need to receive "close attention" in order to fight extremism, and that "countering extremism has nothing to do with suppressing dissent."
Putin also made reference to Tuesday's killings in Jerusalem and stressed the need prevent "anything that ever occurring in our country."
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov were among those in attendance at the meeting.
