High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Fedherica Mogherini said she would have to prepare “physically and psychologically” before engaging in dialogue with Russia at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday.
Mogherini added that she sees Russia as both part of the problem and part of the solution to the Ukraine conflict, hence re-engagement with Russia being vital. Mogherini continued that she feels confident that sanctions, political engagement and internal reform in Ukraine could lead to positive changes.
The Foreign Affairs Council conference was the first ministerial meeting Mogherini held in her new post as the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
