
Russia: 300 servicemen and 30 units conduct drills just outside Moscow
Russia's First Deputy Minister of Defence Arkady Bakhin oversaw the training of artillery formations at the Alabino Range outside Moscow, Tuesday.
Commanders and officers of Russia's Western Military District practised defensive artillery fire. The artillery units involved in the drills were self-propelled 152 mm M1990 Farm, along with BM21 'GRAD' 122mm multiple rocket launch systems. The manoeuvres involved shooting at moving and stationary targets with different types of equipment, weapons, fortifications and control centres.
In total, more than 300 servicemen and 30 units of hardware were involved in the drills. During his visit to Alabino, General Bakhin also reviewed new simulators for artillery training. Bakhin named the Vostok drills, the Tank Biathlon and the strategic nuclear forces inspection among 2014's most important events to the military sector.
