Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban welcomed President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Budapest Tuesday to sign an agreement on strategic partnership between the two nations, including plans to connect gas pipelines to bring in Azeri gas into central Europe through the South Stream project.

Announcing plans to reduce energy prices to that of US levels in order to be more competitive within the global economy, Orban also suggested creating a common EU energy market so Hungary does not have to confront the US' pressure alone.

Other agreements signed between the two countries included sports, tourism and education.
