
Russia: Watch K-329 Severodvinsk perform rescue hatch drill
The K-329 Severodvinsk Yasen-class nuclear attack submarine of Russia's Northern Fleet successfully tested its rescue hatch on Monday.
In a drill, the submarine dived to a depth of 40 metres and then released a hatch in the conning tower containing five crew members. Search and Rescue forces from the Mikhail Rudnicki were on hand for the marines when the hatch came to surface.
The Severodvinsk has a displacement up to 13,300 tons when submerged and is around 140 metres in length. On the surface it can achieve 20 knots (37 kmph/ 23 mph) while its top speed when submerged is 35 knots (65 kmph/40 mph).
