Spain: Barcelona braces for disputed independence vote
Security was tight on the streets of Barcelona on Sunday as the Catalonian capital prepared for a vote on independence, defying Madrid which considers the the vote to be illegal.
Catalans will go to the polls Sunday to answer two questions: whether they want Catalonia to be a state and whether they want that state to be independent from Madrid creating a new European country.
The vote however is unbinding and informal and will not lead to any mandatory political change.
