France: Thousands storm Paris streets against police brutality, 78 arrested
Around 78 people were arrested and 16 taken into custody after an unauthorised protest against police brutality took place at Place de Bastille in Northern Paris on Sunday. Some of the protesters were carrying hammers, helmets, explosives and brass knuckles.
Over 100 police vehicles were deployed to contain the thousands of demonstrators that held banners and chanted against the death of Remi Fraisse, a 21 year-old environmental activist who was fatally killed by a police grenade last week.
After the rally, protesters staged a peaceful sit-in front of the Eiffel Tower.
