Ukraine: Explosions light up Donetsk night sky
Large flashes lit up the horizon, as seen from Donetsk city, early Thursday morning. Fighting continues to rage for control of the nearby international airport, with scores of fighters dying in the area over the past few months and the airport destroyed and left in ruins.
The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Prime Minister Alexander Zakharchenko announced earlier in October that anti-Kiev fighters would respond to any attacks or provocations from the Ukrainian army.
The self-proclaimed leaders of Lugansk and Donetsk plan to hold their own parliamentary elections on November 2, actions Kiev authorities deem illegitimate.
