Italy: Bologna clashes kick off after banker talk
Clashes occurred in Bologna Saturday after 500 people held a demonstration in the city to protest a lecture by the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco. The demonstrators also took the opportunity to denounce a rally held the city centre by 'Forza Nuova' (New Force) MEP Roberto Fiore.
Fights broke out with riot police and carabinieri units around the University of Bologna, where Visco was delivering his lecture. The demonstrators later moved on to Piazza Cavour, where Fiore was addressing his supporters. During the confrontations one police officer was injured and one protester was arrested.
The protesters were aggrieved at Visco's fiscal policies, and they had political disagreements with Fiore's Forza Nuova party.
