India: See army evacuate the vulnerable from cyclone hit Andhra Pradesh
Five people were killed and over 300,000 had to be evacuated as Cyclone Hudhud hit the east Indian coast, Sunday.
The five people died in separate incidents as the cyclone hit three districts of Andhra Pradesh. With wind speeds reaching up to 195km/h (120mph) Hudhud has already caused significant damage and is classed as "very severe". The emergency services and the Indian army evacuated areas under threat and residence assisted elderly unable to leave by themselves. However as the cyclone struck buildings were demolished, trees were uprooted with concrete still stuck to their roots and power lines were knocked down. Officials compare it to last year's Phailin cyclone, which hit the Odisha coast leaving a trail of destruction.
The situation is currently being monitored on an hourly basis and disaster relief teams, including five diving teams, have been dispatched.
