
Spain: Catalans defy Madrid on independence vote
More than 800 Catalan mayors visited Catalan president Artur Mas in Barcelona on Saturday to hand in more than 920 pro-referendum motions approved by their city councils.
Dozens of pro-Independence activists gathered outside Catalan Government headquarters to attend the event.
Catalan's referendum for independence was due to take place on November 9. However, the Constitutional Tribunal suspended it after accepting an appeal presented by the Spanish government to block it.
