Turkey: Kurd solidarity demo SHUT DOWN on Syrian border
A group of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputies launched a sit-in protest at the Mursitpinar border gate between Turkey and Syria on Wednesday.
Protesters called for police to allow the group to cross into the Syrian city of Kobane (Ayn al-Arab), and to stop using tear gas and water cannon against protesters. Demonstrators followed calls by the HDP and other Kurdish organisations for a show of solidarity with the people of Kobane in the face of reported Islamic State (IS)-related violence.
There have been intense battles on the Syrian side of the border between Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and fighters associated with IS. Around 130,000 people are believed to have fled to Turkey in recent days.
