USA: See NYPD arrest climate change activists
Climate change activists were detained by police in New York City on Monday, after clashes broke out between police and protesters pushing for global action against climate change. A total of 104 arrests were made according to official NYPD figures.
The clashes came as activists staged a 'Flood Wall Street' sit-in in the city's financial district to bring attention to climate change. Some of the protesters wore goggles to protect themselves from pepper spray used by police.
On Sunday, thousands marched in New York in what organisers say was the largest march against climate change on record. Organisers say as many as 310,000 people turned out for the People's Climate March.
