Ukraine: Donetsk jobs and education suffer as conflict rages on
:
Both working parents and school children of Donetsk were struggling with the aftermath of the Ukrainian conflict, Saturday, as the war continues to impact even the most basic elements of everyday life that are often taken for granted.
Almost 300 schools in eastern Ukraine were damaged according to the UN, with many more remaining closed because of the danger from shelling, despite the Minsk ceasefire. That means that thousands of children are forced to study at home without the help of professional teaching or their friends. Their parents are often forced to stay at home to look after them, and they consider themselves lucky. Liza, a third grade pupil said that while she was fond of home studying, she missed her friends and teachers.
Thousands have been made unemployed, but without social services, they have no means to provide for themselves or their families, leaving many to rely on hand outs. Those affected say that without reliable supplies of water and power it is difficult to keep businesses open or food fresh.
