USA: "Israeli, Ukrainian struggles the same.. so give me arms!" Poroshenko tells U.S. Congress
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko gave a speech to the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC on Thursday, saying Ukraine's struggle is the same as Israel's and the two countries have a "right to defend themselves."
During his speech he asked the USA to recognise Ukraine as a special ally, alluding to the Russian Aggression Prevention Bill which includes a clause to grant Ukraine 'major non-NATO ally' status. He also said Ukraine was at the centre of a new attempt to divide the world, similar to the cold war.
The Ukrainian President is currently on a tour of North America and visited Canada on Wednesday. He is attempting to garner financial and military support for his government.
