Ukraine: OSCE deputy chief denounces attack on observer group
Alexander Hug, the Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE special mission to Ukraine, released a statement denouncing the attack on OSCE members in Donetsk on Monday.
The observers came under attack on their return from the site of the MH17 crash close to Donetsk, further jeopardising the ceasefire agreed between Kiev and anti-Kiev forces. The group are reported to have found themselves under attack at around 16:00 local time just outside the town of Kirovskoe, which is approximately an hour's drive from Donetsk.
Hug said the group counted at least 40 mortar impacts near their car alone. The vehicles the group were travelling in were damaged by shrapnel but nobody was killed or injured in the attack. In a separate incident another group of OSCE observers came under fire at Donetsk airport when fierce fighting broke out between the Ukrainian army and anti-Kiev forces
