France: Protesters remain hanging in trees despite dam construction
Around 15 environmental activists protested in the trees of Testet in the forest of Sivens, 70 km (43 miles) north of Toulouse, Wednesday, as the construction of a new dam continues to get underway.
The activists, who are from ZAD (zones to defend) were threatened by machinery cutting the trees around their camp, where they have been hanging for weeks. Protesters say the construction will destroy the nearby protected area of Testet.
The activists also accuse the company responsible for the project, CACG, of inflating the construction budget from an originally planned €4.5 million ($6 million) to €8.5 million ($11 million).
