Space: Russian cosmonaut takes charge of ISS
Expedition 40 gave way to Expedition 41 Tuesday aboard the International Space Station (ISS), as Expedition 40 Commander Steve Swanson handed command over to Expedition 41 Commander Maksim Suraev at a zero-gravity ceremony. A cosmonaut since 1999, Suraev has already spent more than 200 days in space as part of Expedition 41 and from 2009 to 2010 as part of Expedition 21 and Expedition 22.
Swanson and Flight Engineers Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) will depart the ISS Wednesday to return to earth early Thursday morning local time in Kazakhstan. Suraev, along with NASA's Reid Wiseman and Alexander Gerst of the European Space Agency (ESA), will remain aboard.
