USA: Wettest day on record floods Phoenix
With over three inches (eight cm) of rain in one day, Phoenix saw its wettest day since 1895 on Monday. Widespread flooding followed the torrential downpour.
Dozens of schools were closed and Arizona Public Services reported that approximately 10,000 customers were without power. Over two dozen cars are reported to have become submerged on Interstate 10; and parts of Interstate 17 and U.S. 60, among other highways, were also flooded.
City workers and police attempted to control the situation, and many of the closed roadways were re-opened in the early afternoon.
