Ukraine: "We are not jihadists!" French DPR fighters rubbish media claims
Four French volunteers, who have joined fighters in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), talked about the consequences of fighting for the militia in Ukraine, on Saturday.
The French citizens, named Michel, Victor, Nicolas and Guiyom, came to Donetsk in mid-August to assist the DPR. One of the volunteers explained that they are being accused of being mercenaries, but insisted they joined on their own accord.
He also talked about the consequences of returning to France, as he believes the volunteers could face up to five years imprisonment and a €75,000 ($97,000) fine. The volunteer fighter also said that the four men joined the DPR to defend the local population and rejected accusations of being jihadists.
