Russia: Lukashevich mourns Stenin, demands Ukraine and EU live up their values
Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich expressed profound grief at the death of Andrei Stenin, Wednesday. Following the confirmation of Stenin's death, Lukashevich demanded that Ukrainian authorities bring those responsible to justice.
Russia's foreign ministry are concerned about the number of journalist deaths in Ukraine, with four Russian journalist dying since the conflict began. Lukashevich described this as "unprecedented."
The values of liberalism and the Western traditions that the Ukraine and EU have committed themselves to requires authorities to maintain a safe environment for press, even if they work for media outlets considered "undesirable" by the state, Lukashevich said. He went on to say that the values of human rights and freedom must be upheld with the EU and Western nations putting pressure on Kiev to maintain the standards of the "family of civilised European nations."
Stenin was killed approximately one month ago, whilst he was travelling on roads near Donetsk and his convoy was fired upon by what is believed to be Ukrainian artillery.
