Russia: "We weren't expelled from the G8, we skipped it like school" - Lavrov
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed concerns about Russia’s standing in the world amid its partners not attending the G8 when he spoke at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Monday. Lavrov emphasized that Russia wasn't expelled from G8, they "skipped it [like school]."
The 2014 G8 summit was due to be held in Sochi in June but the other seven states backed out after Crimea voted to rejoin Russia in March.
In his speech, Lavrov also warned Europe against the dangerous consequences of marginalising Moscow and claimed Brussels’ unbending position over Ukraine led to the current conflict in the country.
