Spain: Tomato war unleashed in world's biggest food fight

People from around the world gathered in Valencia on Wednesday to participate in the annual Tomatina Festival, dubbed "the world's biggest food fight." Event participants, including locals and tourists, packed onto the streets of the eastern town of Bunol as locals pelted them with water and tomatoes from trucks and balconies.

A Japanese tourist explained how he attends Tomatina Festival every year, adding that he never knows what to expect from the wild festivities. Last year, local authorities privatised the event. Prior to charging participants at the door, the event attracted around 40,000 people to the town. Now, in part due to safety reasons, only 22,000 are permitted to attend the festival.
